Road Trip Mission: Impossible (Part 2)
We got into Texas on Sunday, June 3rd, around dinner time. Dad gave us a quick tour of their new office/home. He is renovating/remodeling an old grocery store/attorney's office that was built in the 1930's. The main floor was already complete when they moved in, but the second floor only had one finished bedroom-no closet. Since moving in, my dad has framed and dry walled the attic (so he can have a closet in his bedroom), put in a full size bath (including tile), and is working on a loft bed (and murphy bed) for when all the grandkids come out for the summer. I'm so proud of him, he's doing such a great job. He's so handy with electrical, plumbing and wood work that he doesn't have to hire out for it. It is also a much bigger space than his previous house AND office space that they were renting. I should have taken pictures-as before and after photos are kind of my thing-but I didn't, dang it.
After the tour, we cruised over to Evan and Jannelle's new place. (brother and sister in law) They had just started moving that day and so everything was still in boxes and out of order, which was making Jannelle a little crazy. Ya see, Evan and Jannelle were leaving on a trip to Utah the following Wednesday and she still had to finish getting everything out of the old apartment, clean and paint, sell their little dog (because their new place doesn't allow pets), do laundry, and pack. I don't think it would have been that big of a deal, however she has a 2 year old little boy, is 5 months pregnant, and working full time. I totally know what that's like-only we moved when I was 8 months pregnant. So so stressful! We went to The Cotton Patch for dinner, very yummy! Then came back to E & J's new place to help however we could.
(Monday-June 4th) The next morning was kind of laid back. We visited and had breakfast, then got the boys in their swim trunks and headed out to the park that also had a splash pad. Cody and Ayden LOVED it. Especially Cody, he was in heaven. He is such a little water baby. He would run through the water on the splash pad and then book it to the playground to go down the slide. Ayden tried to keep up. :)
Clay, was the total opposite, which is definately out of character for him. He kept telling me he didn't feel good. He didn't want to run through the water or play on the playground. He slept the whole time on the ground on a blanket. We got back to my parents and the second he stepped out of the car he barfed...everywhere. Good timing! Nobody likes cleaning puke out of a car, or anywhere for that matter.
After changing the boys back into normal clothes, we left Clay and Ayden (who was sleeping) with Dad so we (me, Cody, Mom, and Aunt Patti could go birthday shopping for Ayden. He was turning two on the upcoming Thursday, June 7th. I didn't want to be restricted on size as far as toys go-because I knew whatever I got him in Utah it would have to fit in a suitcase for him to take back home. So I wanted to give him his presents from Auntie early. While out and about we got his presents, ordered him an ice cream cake (to share with Clayton) and picked up some shears (so I could give mom and haircut before I left to go back home). Then we picked up the boys and headed to Jannelle's Doctor's office. She had an ultrasound appointment that afternoon, and they were going to do it in 4D. So she invited us to come with her. I was so excited to see my new little nephew even though he's not here yet. :) According to the ultra sound, he's gonna look just like Ayden. Now we are just curious to know what color eyes he's going to have. Jannelle is hoping for brown. (Evan has green, Ayden has blue, and Jannelle has brown. Funny huh?)
Sorry no pics of the ultrasound. Not really my place to share pictures of their baby. :)
We all headed over to my Uncle Doug and Aunt Sue Ellen's house for a bbq after the doctor. It was so good to see them. And the kids just loved their little swing set they had set up. Clayton and Jaylun (Aunt Sue Ellen's "son") got along great and spent the night chasing eachother, sword fighting, and blowing bubbles. Clay got really sad when we had to leave. But I assured him that he was going to be seeing a lot of Jaylun since Clay was staying with Nanny and Poppy for a whole month.
We said our goodbyes fairly early because E & J were still needing to try and get things moved out of the old place into the new one. We stopped by to give them a hand. We moved a lot of boxes, got Ayden's crib set up, and kitchen stuff put away. Then we let Ayden open his birthday gifts. We (the conger family) got him "Bullseye" from Toy Story 2. He is Woody's trusty steed. Ayden had a really small figurine of Bullseye but his Woody was too big to sit on him. So we got him the bigger version so he could actually sit Woody on Bullseye. He loved it. We also got him a few smaller Toy Story figurines. He LOVES all the Toy Story characters.
He was totally not interested in opening the presents.
Nanny and Poppy gave Ayden Curious George audio books.
Aunt Patti got Ayden a tractor and some Scooby Doo movies. (Love this picture of Ayden, he looks identical to my brother when he was little)
Bullseye
Woody AND Buzz can fit on Bullseye, YAY!
The next morning, we didn't do much. I gave mom a haircut and bathed Evan's little dog, Ali (pronounced Ollie). He is only about 3 pounds, white and black, long haired, apple faced, chihuahua. He looks like a little spider monkey...long long legs. He was going to a new home, so he needed to be smelling good. Then we packed our bags and left for the airport. Cody and I were flying back to Utah and the airport is about 2 hours away from my parents place. I get really choked up when I leave my parents(or vice versa). In my mind they are only a drive away-but then when you get on an airplane and the flight is still like 6 hours, it's a little depressing thinking about how far apart we REALLY are. I'm so thankful that I was able to see them and spend the little time I had with them. I'm also very grateful that my parents have always made family a priority. It's such a wonderful feeling being so close (in spirit) to my family. One day we'll live closer together again...i hope.
